Ahead of the Edgbaston match, Ben Stokes stated, "We're confident in our abilities to chase."

Ben Stokes, the captain of the English red-ball team, expressed confidence in his team’s capacity to chase in test games. After defeating the Shubman Gill-led team in Headingley to earn a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, England will play the second Test at Edgbaston on July 2.

England will proceed cautiously and start over if necessary in order to pursue another large total, even if it was a superb attempt to chase down 371 in the first Test, according to Stokes.

“When we have to bat in the fourth innings, we are confident in our capacity to be able to go out and chase.” Over the past three or four years, there have been a lot of positive experiences, which is evident in that. Therefore, when you go out there in the fourth inning, you’re naturally confident. Nonetheless, 370 runs are a lot, and we knew we had to perform exceptionally well in order to come close. Therefore, there is even more confidence than last week, but this week is a new game. We start from zero again, Stokes told the media on the eve of the second Test of the current five-match series against India.

Stokes enjoyed the fact that he could deliver lengthy stretches of consistent pace. In the opening match, he took five wickets while bowling a total of 35 overs at a fairly respectable economy rate.

“I tried my best to not worry about anything outside of what we usually worry about.” But it’s all coming out well now that I’m out of that game, feeling confident in all of my rhythms and able to use spells all day long. One of the things I wanted to focus on was keeping up my tempo,” Stokes said.

The second-best chase England made in Tests, the second-best against India, and the third chase of 350+ at Headingley were the 371 runs they ran down. From Stokes’ comments, it was evident that, regardless of the target, England would maintain its aggressive approach to batting.
