Former Player to Coach

Varun Aaron was a speedster who became renowned during the 2010s because he was the only Indian fast bowler who was able to pitch the ball consistently at over 140 km/h. Aaron had featured in his international career in 18 matches, comprising nine tests, and nine ODIs wherein he accounted for 29 wickets.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Aaron has played in the period from 2011 to 2022 and was part of five different teams with whom he took 44 wickets in nine seasons, considering an economy rate of 8.93.

Aaron From Commentator to Coach

The post-retirement period saw Varun Aaron, the erstwhile fast bowler, commentating on cricket matches. He, however, was later selected to be the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad. The appointment of Aaron is predicted to impart the franchise’s bowling unit with the needed wisdom and technology for the next season.

Sunrisers Looking for a Turnaround After Dismal 2025 Season

Even after being in the No. 2 position in the 2024 IPL season, Sunrisers had an inconsistent run of form in the 2025 campaign. A fantastic start, by registering the highest scored record of Rajasthan Royals in the tournament with 286/6, was more of a fluke than real strength. The team has managed to hold the 6th position at the end of the tournament’s points table. The main problem the team had during the entire league was their bowlers who couldn’t make an impact on the game and have their opposition players get away easily.

Coaching Changes at the Franchise

The team’s bowling coach for the last two seasons (2024 and 2025), James Franklin, has been replaced by Aaron, the former New Zealand all-rounder. The situation whether Franklin will still be a part of the team is uncertain as there is no confirmation yet.
